El President is a beautiful open space with festive decorations and a bright colorful interior. The music is a perfect vibe and is played at the right volume. But you didn't come here for the ambiance, you came to hear about the food. Everyone liked their food. The duck confit the tlayuda and the huevos rancheros were something to write home about. The meat was tender and juicy. The short rib enchiladas were just alright. Also we had a fantastic server who was honest and helped us with a great pace. He anticipated everything that we needed. Overall, definitely recommend this place!

Gorgeous large restaurant with delicious food! We really enjoyed starting with the guac only thing we wished was there was more. The enchiladas were flavorful and plenty saucy. The service was helpful but not very quick or attentive. We can't wait to go back to try some more dishes on the menu.

My favorite thing about this restaurant is the decor and the different dining 'room' options. You have the bar seating, a dining room behind it, a separate more enclosed dining room to the side (with very cool aesthetic), and the outdoor patio. Service is straightforward. Drinks are average tho my fave so far is the frozen pineapple marg, surprisingly as i dont usually care for frozen drinks. The food has all been tasty- ive tried the birria tacos, shrimp tacos (that shrimp is so delicious), and the fried mahi mahi tacos which were delicious as well. On my most recent visit yesterday i also tried the queso fundido with chorizo. This was tasty, but super greasy. I would recommend if in the area but idk if its worth going far out of the way for.

We came for a Saturday brunch and the food was great! We started with a pitcher of margaritas, guac and chips and the nacho pizza. After I got the tuna and crab tostada. I didn't love the tostadas to be honest but I would definitely come back and have other things. My friends meals were great and the vibe of the restaurant was really fun.

We had another wonderful evening here this past week. When I made the reservation, I asked for outdoor seating, which meant a covered area looking out onto the street, It turned out that it was very hot on the night we went, but the overhead fans kept things at a very pleasant temperature. I definitely will try to be seated in this area again. We again started with margaritas & guacamole, & they were every bit as good as we remembered. For our entree, we shared the branzino & it was delicious. Very flavorful & beautifully served. Despite how good it was, though, our favorite entree is still the whole fried snapper.

I visited on a Monday for a quick happy hour and I was pleased with the food quality and price. El Presidente recently added happy hour from 3 PM - 6 PM Monday to Friday. It has a good selection of four snacks ($6-$10) and four drinks ($9-$10). The restaurant has a cool space with a large bar in front, a covered outdoor patio, some back dining rooms, and a huge, two-story glass wall that they can open up (garage style) when the weather is nice. The bar area was popular when we visited but the rest of the place was quiet. We snagged two bar seats around 5 PM and tried the Chicken Taquitos (3 for $7), Frozen Pineapple Margarita ($9), and "The" Margarita ($9). The Taquitos were great. They were a little wider than your typical grocery store frozen taquito, they had recognizable chicken pieces inside, and they came with a decent amount of sauce on top and guacamole on the bottom. The frozen margarita was also tasty and had a nice salt + tajin rim. The regular margarita was not very good -- bland, and way too much salt on the rim. Service was friendly but a little slow. I will definitely stop by again for happy hour and I hope the other Starr restaurants in DC also add one!

We visited el presidente to celebrate our anniversary. The staff went above and beyond to give us a great night to remember. From walking in and receiving a happy anniversary from the front reception to our waiter making us feel special, the night was fantastic! We also received a small toasting champagne and candle lit dessert to mark the occasion. Our waiter also presented us with a little postcard keepsake that said thanks for celebrating our anniversary with them. The food is beyond incredible and well worth it. Couldn't recommend celebrating an occasion here more!! The restaurant itself is beautiful.

Nachos are amazing! The cocktails were okay, but not the best. Guacamole was solid Branzino was also really good Service was great! Can't wait to go back for the nachos

Let me start by saying you are better off booking a reservation than walking into this establishment, but boy when you do get it-- it is quite lovely. The ambiance is very romantic and the lighting, aesthetic, and vibes were on par. 10/10 to the designer. Now for the food, I had the cucarachas and nachos as a starter. Man-- the shrimp with that hot sauce. Delicious and delectable! The nachos were also great and tasted like a Mexi-melt from Taco Bell, but in a good way. For entree, I had the barbacoa tacos which were more than enough and very delicious. I loved the various array of salsas that came with it. If you are in the DMV, you must visit this restaurant! I'm from Texas and will say this Mexican food is top notch authentic!
